Famous Sister

So my sister had a reporter from the Bend Bulletin come and interview her as she was teaching her third grade class while I was visiting last week...it was pretty amazing, and now all of Bend (who read the paper, anyway) and all of you will know what an awesome teacher she is!

Let me just be the first to predict that my sister, Jill Harrell, will one day be the National Teacher of the Year. She's just that good.

Anyway, the article is about her use of the Iditarod as a learning tool...she's been helping out the Scdoris family and learning to run dogs herself, and went to the actual Iditarod this year. All year long she's been sharing her excitement with her third graders, who have been enthusiastically writing, reading, and doing math and all sorts of other things around Iditarod themes. Each of them adopted a musher to follow, and they checked their mushers' progress each day using Jill's computer and the SMARTboard. (Since each musher carries a GPS, you can see exactly where they are at any given moment!)

Check out the article here. Jill, you rock!
